Great question. I bought some back in the fall from cabelas on clearance and they are all painted over. I'm guessing now that is why they were dirt cheap. HA
I recently found a good deal on painted jigs. I bought a bunch but now am faced with the paint in the eye of the hook. Having very seldom had pained jigs, I never picked up the special little tool that pushes out the paint. I have cleaned about 10 of them with a pair of cutters and a Bodkin, but it is taking forever, not to mention I have stabbed myself three times. Does any one have a trick to remove the paint quickly and easily?

Fish like your hungry!
just use another hook point to clean the paint out. fast and easy.
I have used a hook point before, but the paint on mine is very thick and over done.

I hate it when have to clean the paint out of jig eyes. Want to thank everyone on the board, that I've bought jigs from and there has not been no paint in the eyes.

If the paint is pretty thick, squeeze it gently with a pair of pliers first. This will crack the paint & soften it up, getting most the paint off the outside of the eye. then you can clean it out without it slipping off & stabbing you.

You can buy the jig eye cleaners at Walmart for a couple of bucks. I consider the jig cleaners as part of the tools I always have in a tackle box.
I use a heated bodkin to clean mine. I paint mine before I tie them and every once in awhile I get a little sloppy and a bic lighter a bodkin make short work of it.

Thanks for all the replies. I was hoping to find an alternate way to remove the paint without the tool. I will get the tool as soon as I find one. Using a hook point is not practical as the paint is very thick.
