Never leave home without them.
I'm rather new to the site and I am looking into buying a couple drift socks. I generally spider rig with either minnows or jigs and wanted to know if the socks really help with boat control in the wind. Also, my trolling motor is a little strong for my boat so I was wondering if they could help slow me down. Any tips or advice is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have an 18' fiberglass boat and have two socks I use very often. They definately help improve boat control and have salvedged many a day fishing for me. I'd recommend buying one size larger than what is recommended for your boats length. Packaging has recommended size based on boat length.

The size of the drift sock depends on how bad you want to continue fishing on a windy day. I just ordered a 77" for my 16 foot aluminum boat from Cabela's so I can keep on keeping on.

To slow you down a 5 gallon bucket might work. To really apply the brakes use a sock. Just be sure to buy the weighted brand with floats installed for best deployment. Spend the extra money and get the harness for each sock. Dont ask me how I know, just get it.
Hey guys thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I just ordered a couple from cabelas with the harness. Hope they help like ya'll say they do.

I have an 18' metal boat, I have 2 54" socks and some days I wish I had 2 more. Definitely spring for the bouy harnesses.
