this is a good thread for me, because im in the market for a crappie landing net.....I will buy the longest extending of what ever model I decide on, longer the better....and a rubber net is a must....I like the looks of that S2, I googled it and watched a video on it, looks very nice.

Ego is definitely the way to go IMHO. See if you can find someone that has the different ego nets. Extend them out and then place a weight in them. You could use a can of coffee or some other readily available weight. The rubber definitely will give you less hook tangle, but if you are going to try to extend it out a long way you may find that it gets really heavy when fully extended. I had to settle for the rubber coated because when I extend it out all the way, while I am slow trolling, the rubber was just to cumbersome for me.

We have the new s2. Its not heavier per say, its a full net length longer than the reach. About 20" longer so more weight by length.

That's a great idea, I'm pretty set on rubber just cause I pull cranks a lot, rubber prob a good thing for that reason alone. Whom ever mentioned the pool noodle idea had a good thought also.

the s2 is nice just big compared to the regular ego, the mesh is rubber coated on all of em now and I like it over the thick rubber one because of the weight, but i don't pull cranks, they work well with double hook rigs though.
I clever quip fishing ironic statement crappie!
