jeepguy, I have done that while fishing in current, but very rarely.
as crappie s. was talking bout iffen you can fish a small lake pond and feel your trap hit the top of a weed bed-weed's,that,is when you will have to pop it actually we used to rip it and the fish would act and bite just as a reactoin bait! But iffen you can find weed's, weed beds this time of the year and are not doing any good dont pass them weed bed's up without pulling out the old tiny trap!! 2/3rd,s of your strikes will come on the rip and fall actoin of the tiny trap/or( r. trap for bass!)color's Tenn, shad/fire tiger depending on cloud cover and clarietey of water! RIP IT,with rod tip upward's and a secound to fall. then retrieve as fast as need and repeet. It's a bait more less when i fish it i cast and burn it after i sesnse it hit the weed tops! In winter fishing dead weeds in water shed's ive got pic's of 5 to6 lb. bass. e-z. but for crappies i just cast into pockett's and off the weed edge.(hope i didnt get to long!!
Reel foot yankee
I mainly stick to a blue and chrome trap. That has been by far the hottest color for me and most people I know over the years. There are a few other decent colors but that is a good one. Every place is a little different though.
