I have the holders that GCD uses. Nothing wrong with them. They have a lock on the end of them that you can twist over your rod and it will secure your rod in them so they can't come out. We are only allowed 2 poles for each angler here, so we don't need all the rod holders that you guys use. I have caught some really big fish using them. I have 4 in the front and 4 in the back of the boat. I use one on each side of me in the front when I am running a ridge and have never lost a pole yet. When I am fishing a tree pile I put one pole in the holder and hold the other one in my hand. When I am moving around a tree or brush pile I will hold 2 rods in my hands and jig them. When I get a hit on one rod I will put the other rod in the holder until I get the fish in the boat. When I am not using them they can be taken out of the holder which is mounted on the gunale and stored out of the way until I need them. Sissy looking or not they do work well. EB

Don I don't use my rod holder as much as some do since I long line and want the rod in my hand. However I do have rod holders that attach to my seat pedestal and then a riser up to one of the bars with 3 or 4 holders on it. I can move it from side to side or right up front. I tried many of the rod holders talked about on this site, but I like the ones I have now best and the rod will not come out. Also they are not plastic and are Aluminum so no rust or breaking of these. I just didn't want them attached to my boat so I can take them out and no additional holes in my boat.

If you look around this site you can see the items I use which consist of the bracket to mount to my seat pedestal and a flat bar going out from that to a riser with the cross plate on it with the rod holder on it. Oh an no latches to hold the rod in and it just stays in place. This is a simple thing that works.
