Reminds me of a time about 25 or 30 years ago when a fellow watched me fighting to clean a couple of dozen fish. He cleaned one of my fish to show me how fast he was, then showed me how to do it. Watched me do the rest, and he for sure made me 10 times faster. Youtube wasn't around back then, so you had to be lucky to come across a good teacher. Nice video. Thanks for posting it. I do use an electric now, but I still remember that fellow showing me what to do.

    Thumbs up

    Excellent vid!!!

Elecrtic knives are for for gurly guys and fixed blades are for men!!!:p

Similar to the way I do them but I have a little less waste, but nit takes me a little longer. I follow the spine a little closer.

I have an electric, but it leaves the fillets raggedy and frizzy... not to my liking... not that there's anything wrong with that.... plus I don't like my fillets smeared with fish feces either like the electric knife does, can you say fish e coli? Maybe fish feces is an acquired taste?

I like the nice smooth cut fillets of a conventional fillet knife!:p

Good video. I use an Elec. knife instead , but do it close to the same way. Good illustration for someone to watch to learn. Thanks for sharing.

nice vid but I got a question...Do you clean all your fish in the house? Man if I tried to clean 50 slabs there it would be ONE GIANT MESS, I can assure you...Why clean them in the house?

I do like electric knives, and my filets get that piece of meat behind the ribcage, and my wife wouldn't let me clean fish in the kitchen.

A lot of people up north clean their fish in the house... to keep from freezing to death out in the cold! Cold wet hands and a fillet knife don't mix well in freezing weather.

GREAT POINT and something I never thought about...Even then I would have to build a fish cleaning shack or something...

I clean and fillet outside here in Maine in the winter... They seem to fillet a bit better when they are a bit stiff from the cold :D

If it's cold enough, the only way you'll be cleaning fish is with a chop ax!

I've been ice fishing up in Canada in the winter and we had to keep the frozen minnows in the truck to let them thaw enough to be able to get a hook in them!... and the fish freeze so hard there's no way you could even stab them with a fillet knife let alone fillet one, a 20.oz bottle of Pepsi freezes solid in just a couple minutes... but I think you already know about that.
