    Default Yamaha

I own a 4 stroke yamaha and it's been nothing but GREAT. Quite frankly, I have yet to hear from any yamaha owner. That has had anything negative to say about thier motor.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

OK my 2 cents is this... I have a friend that is a master mechanic for Merc, Johnson/Evenrude, Yamaha and one or two others and he told me the only one tho have or the best of the best is the Yamaha. I had a Skeeter bass boat then and it had a 200 Merc that had no low end at all. I traded it in on a 200 Yamaha in 1999 and it was the best move. I may have lost 2 MPH on top end, but the low end was a monster compared with the Merc. I do know that there was trouble on the low end with some Merc's back in 1996 when I got mine. With that Merc if you didn't have enough speed to fully load your boat on the trailer with the first attempt, you had to back off and try again because once it stopped you could give it full throttle and never move it.

One other note the Merc I was using a 4 blade prop and on the Yamaha I was using a 3 blade. The 4 blade prop you would think it helped the low end, but no.

    Now that I have a pontoon I have a 50 4 stroke Yamaha.

I have owned OMC motors from 1957 ( 3hp) till now ( 130 and 150 ) and have never had one blow up or had to have any major repair work done to one of them. The longest period of time I have owned any one motor was eight years. I personally think most emgines of all the mauf. give good service. There are problems when new technologies are first introduced but overall it comes down to personal preferance and confidence in the dealership where you purchase. A few dollars more can be well spent if ongoing service is superior.

I personally have a 75 Merc that is two years old. Have had Mercury and Johnson Evinrudes before and don't know if one is any better than the other. I do wish I had spent the extra money and went for a four stroke though. Have never heard anything except good things about a Yamaha either. I agree with Whizkids though. You need to look at the dealership that is going to service whatever you buy and decide how comfortable you are with them.

    Thumbs up Honda

Honda has been awful good to me :D Think maybe their 115-130 motors
are a bit heavy for their hp, probably has something to do with them borrowing so much from car engines. Hate to recommend anything to a
friend tho - they ALL make a few bad ones, and sure as somebody buys
something on my recommendation, they'll get "the lemon":D
Had a 90 Nissan 2-stroke before that, and it was a darned good motor, just COLD-NATURED as
    all get out.
