In an auto that is driven regularly and the charging system is working properly even a cheap battery should last 4 years. We normally get 6 to 7 years out of the batteries on the equipment at work, as long as it is used at least once a week. Some of the things that will shorten a battery life is a cranking and charging system that is not working properly, this can include bad wire connections, corroded battery terminals, dirty and damp battery, battery that isn’t properly tied down (bouncing around in the battery box will break and short out the plates in the battery), a starter that is dragging, and a alternator that is overcharging (should be 13.8 to 14.6 volts). One of the reasons Delco batteries last so long is that they are the best sealed batteries there is. They don’t have the acid leaking out of the battery and causing them to get damp dirty film on the top of the battery.
