Get a piece of small plastic tubing. Cut a short piece abt 1/4'' long. Run the line through it, tie on the jig, and slide the tube over the eye. This will hold the jig level whatever knot you use.
The way to keep your jig level, when using a trilene knot, is to put a drop of super glue on it after you pull it to the back. Please dont get any on your fingers. It makes for a terrible day.

I tie several different knots, and It does not seem to matter, I guess the fish that want the funny hanging jig are after crippled bait, tie what you like it all works, i m o
x2
I tie a knot similar to a uni knot and I too pull the line 90 degrees to the jig or slightly back toward the hook point. Don't know if the fish care but it's a confidence thing for me. Been meaning to try the loop knot approach but as yet haven't remembered when on the water. Too busy loading the boat, I guess!!lol
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
this subject has many pros and cons on keeping your jig 'level'. IMO don't waste your time. a predator is looking for some weakness in its prey to make success easier. any prey acting 'out of the ordinary' will surely attract attention. thus a bait hanging below horizontal, not level, is out of the ordinary. I 've always used the surgeons knot.
