Matzuo sickle hooks. Sharp as a needle and sticks them deep in the roof of the mouth.

I've been using Bronze #6 Eagle Claw Light Wire Aberdeen Cricket Hooks for years.

    Why?

    1) Less likely for fish to see them in our clear to slightly stained water.

    2) Small gap gets hung up a lot less.

    3) Can straighten with 8-pound line without disturbing the cover. Bend back, re-bait and back to fishing in seconds.

    4) Let's the minnow - especially the small ones our crappie seem to prefer - swim around more naturally.

    5) Less traumatic on the minnow (makes smaller hole) so they live longer on the hook.

    6) They catch fish like these 1.75 to 2.75-pounders we caught this week:

I have them rigged up with 8-pound Berkley XT Green and 1/2-inch Thill Pencil Style Slip Floats on 10' B&M Crappie Wizards.

The biggest difference over bigger, stiffer hooks is that we do SET THE HOOK. A quick, firm hook-set will put these hooks through the hard tissue in the middle of the crappie's top lip 95% of the time.

Used to use truturns in bronze size 2 but Walmart quit selling 'em. Now I just pick up a light wire hook that theyre carrying when I need a few. Would love finding some more truturns.:o

1.) Sickles w/ low barbs come out as fast as they go in. plus sorta brittle.
2.) Cute pics JB, but a hook pic/link would be helpful.
3.) read Walter and Soloman & Capps and Coleman use Eagle Claw 214el....humm?? ever heard of them
4.) I'm considering this mustad again-->Mustad 3777 Live Minnow Bait Fish Hook
and for jigs, lightwire may have the hookup...

The 215 is the same as the 214 but with a longer shank.

I just started using Matzuo sickle hooks #10-8-6 they are the sharpest hooks I have ever used. Like I said I just started using them but have yet to miss a hook set, and always been in the roof of the mouth. I tried tieing some 1/80 and 1/64 jigs the other day and found out just how sharp the hooks are, by the time I finished I had most of my fingers taped up to where I couldn't tie any more. LOL
