Drifting is fishing without an anchor; just letting the breeze push you along the lake. If its too windy you cant keep the bait down because the boat moves to fast. Drifting is a great way to cover large lakes.

Tonight Im going to try drifting at night with live minnows on a sabiki rig. Its mind boggling how a fish can find a one inch minnow 25 feet down in the pitch darkness.

    Default sense of smell

and the vibrations put off. Its their was of finding food, all preditors have sences they use and smell is one of the best. Fish use vibrations in the water just like deer use vibrations in the air. the nibbles give off the smell trail and the crappie follow it to your bait, minnow give off vibrations when they swim just as jigs do when they move. I have used nibbles with minnows to kick it up a knotch at times.
