I watched your video, very informative. You will acclimate quickly to crappie fishing no problem. Bring your surf tackle as well, but most of the tailwaters in Mo. dont require near the distance as true surf casting.

New To crappie fishing ...but do you use baits lures or what?

If you've ever fished soft plastics for bream back in NZ, you should do fine with crappie, bass, bluegill (a/k/a bream, but pronounced "brim".) SP's will catch about anything.

Crappie are not as bottom-oriented as other fish and will suspend a lot.

I wouldn't worry about looking like an idiot too much. I do it all the time and doesn't seem to have any ill effects, generally.
