If I am fishing a minnow under a bobber on a hook....I hook them under the dorsal fin. If I am fishing a minnow on a jig...then I hook through the lips.
I had a heated debate on hooking minnows with my brother in law last weekend. He says through the eyes,I say through the lips. Both seem to work great here in Arizona. But since I started catching my own shad with a cast net, seems the lips are best for them. What do you do.

I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

tightlineing minnows only = through the tail
anything else I hook though the lips/eyes
If you are trolling they will live longer if you hook them thru the lips from the bottom up.

if you will do a search this has been debated several times .it depends on what way i am fishing, i will hook them all kind of ways it just depends on what they want
The fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad
I seem to have a lot of minnows stolen by the fish when I hook through the lips, what am I doing wrong?
I got 350 heads on a 305 engine.
I get 6 miles to the gallon.
