I've tried circle hooks 2 times, hook-up ratio went way down (for me). I'll have to agree with jfraley I like the Tru-Turns. For MR. WHISKERS though they're hard to beat.

circles is designed to hook a fish in the corner of his mouth as he takes the bait and swims away. the two corners of a crappies mouth is the most fragile part a hook can be stuck. id think a lot of crappie would be lost hooked in this location because it is such a tender spot and hooks would tear out so easy.. on catfish and stripers they work fantastic cause they got tough rubbery mouth corners that will hold a fish, but not a crappie. Ive never used em on crappie. thats just my thoughts on em. IMO jhooks and tru turns would be your best bet.
listen with your eyes---its the only way to beleive what you hear...
A different style can also work very well is if you use a drop shot rig and hook. It is especially deadly tight line fishing over a brush pile. I started using this rig last year and had very good luck. You have more feeling with it. If the crappie lifts you bait you can feel the loss of weight so the bite you miss with other methods you will not miss like this.
