Always take someone with you and always keep spare clothes in the truck. If you do happen to fall in having a change of clothes can be a life saver.

I guess I should clarify some:
I'm in upper part of SC near Charlotte, NC. I don't want to over do it nor do I want to risk a non - recoverable accident.

I have a 24ft jet boat with a 460ford engine. I carey in my boat a propane bottle. I have a 50,000 btu. propane heater that I light up when its cold. I wear insullated bib overalls with a heavy duty winter coat. When traveling to my destination I take off the heavy coat and where my life jacket. I have a heater that runs off the engine. I don't care how cold it gets I stay warm.
    My boat.

Something else to remember while fishing in a boat any time of year.....

If your cell phone is in your pocket when you fall overboard.....guess what....your phone is now useless....

I take my phone out of my pocket before i ever leave the dock and put it on the front deck....

Here's a tip for anyone that drops their phone in the water or gets it wet and it won't work. Put it in a ziplock bag with rice in it. The rice will naturally absorb the water. Always good to carry one on board just in case that phone gets wet. God bless.

The extra clothes is a must, you have to stop the body heat loss process wet clothes causes. The arctic armor is good stuff, a friend from AK has the jacket and it's great. Never tried the under armor but there's too many good reports to discount it. The best thing to have with you is your head. Thinking things through, and playing "what if" will save you more than anything. Panic negates all training and preparation, so try to have some kind of idea or plan to refer to should something go wrong. Going alone with the extra clothes and low temps isn't too smart if you look at how little time you have to get warm before you start to loose feeling and euphoria set in. My wife has put the squash on me fishing alone this winter since the new boat doesn't have high sides like my 16' jon had. Just my input, and I hope this is all just preparation and none of us need it this or any other year.

Well maybe after I meet some of the local slabbers maybe some lone soul will feel like fishing and invite me along. I'm a computer geek so we'll see how that goes :D
