    Default Where Did They Go?

Tried an oxbow near the Ouachita River last week with slim results. I searched all my usual spots and only caught a couple tiny crappie.

Yesterday, I had to go back to try to work the puzzle again. I had asked a friend, who I consider an expert, for advice. I expected him to tell me a spot or suggest I try a different tactic.

Instead, he said, “Put your depth finder on side imaging at 50 feet of range, and go find them”. So I did just that. It took a while, and the gnats were ferocious, but it worked!! The fish were 5-8 feet deep on trees in 10-20 feet of water! Maybe one or two on a tree and many were small, but many more than I was seeing in my old spots.

I caught enough for supper, and learned a great lesson!! Most fish were caught on silver hand-tied jigs with silver nibble.

I’m thankful for friends and for being able to live where I have so many choices of a place to fish!!

    What’s a good gnat repellent?

Good report, I intend to start hitting the river next weekend if it keeps falling like it is.

I've never had the patience to idle around looking for fish with my side scan.

I went back yesterday. High pressure, and apparently it was “Let’s all go to the camp and ride around in the boat weekend!” Lots of boat traffic. Found a few fish on deep trees. Caught more small bass than crappie

The best part is that I fished a different area, so I learned some more hidden offshore structure.

Maybe if this rain will stop, I can try some other places!

Pretty much the same jig. Silver 1/16 oz. A more simple version seemed to work better. Shiney silver chenille, and a few strands of silver flashabou, with a silver nibble.

Good job on the river, we are catching some up here at Crossett. The fish are in the woods backwater, and they are full of crawfish. It seems like they come out of the woods during daylight and go deep to bottom, just my theory. Once the river falls out, we should have some fat fish!
