    Default Oxbow Off Ouachita

Went to an oxbow off the Ouachita River yesterday. Water was up a couple feet since last time. Some wind, but not terrible. Looked and looked and couldn’t find any fish. Tried every thing from less than a foot deep to fifteen feet. About seven boats within sight. Didn’t see any of them catch anything either. Finally in the afternoon, I tried some new places. Big shallow flat, nothing! Tried a cove and found a couple nice fish on trees in twelve feet of water. First one right at two pounds. Second one about a pound. Missed one back in the pocket, then called it a day. Good to get out! I have much to learn!!

The Quachita river is my least favorite place in the world to crappie fish!! D’Arbonne. Caney. Poverty. Bussy. So many other places better to fish IMO. Even the local tourney guys say it’s nothing like it used to be.

Lots of gar in the summer. I’m sure the are there all the time, but I have only been there once last summer. Neat boat ride! Caught big catfish on crappie jigs. Big empty parking lot in the middle of nowhere. Made me a bit uneasy, but that’s a pretty good neighborhood.

Its the same way up here at Crossett, its a hit and miss. With all this rain it will move the fish around
