Went to an oxbow off Ouachita River Friday and Saturday. Wind was howling Friday! Only a small area was fishable due to the wind. Had Livescope problems. I have been reconfiguring my unit to make it portable.
The returns were moving across the screen backwards and pointing down at a 45 degree angle. I restored sonar defaults, and it got a little better. Then looked at the transducer and realized that I had changed it to the opposite side of the pole. That finally fixed it. The few fish I found were sitting on the bottom in fow. I put a jig in front of about 20 of them and two bit. Two nice black crappie. Trolling motor batteries started getting weak so I went home.
Saturday morning wind forecast from south, not as bad, I decided to try again. Wind out of the north, but still more than forecasted. North bank is high, so I could fish in the lee of it. Couldn’t find any fish! Trolling motor getting weak after 5 hours of battling the wind. I decided to drift north/south caught one really nice black crappie on a 1/16 oz silver hand tie.
Checked trolling motor batteries and one is bad.
I did learn a lot about my Livescope unit, and marked a lot of offshore brush piles.
Water temperature was 57-59 degrees, so it won’t be long if this warm spell continues.
Spring fishing is rough!!
