Thread: 4/25/2023 When It ALL COMES TOGETHER ON DA BAYOU LACOMBE

Launched at Main St. around 9:30. The water was raising and the water temp was 72 f. Slight 6 mph wind and the boat launch was packed for a Tuesday. Tried a few spots and then headed to a spot Cajun Ray and myself had caught a few the previous week and boy did it pay off.
After many many hours on the water learning the new electronics, learning Da Bayou, reading a few Sacalait books, going on many training trips with Cajun Ray and Going Catching, and watching any an all tube videos about sacalait fishing it finally all came together today on Da Bayou. It was one of the most rewarding fishing trips I have ever been on. For the first time attempting to catch the elusive Sacalait I felt like I had won. Not because I was with experienced sacalait fishermen but because I knew my electronics and because I had practiced my craft to the point that I was confident and knew I was on my "A" Game.

Ended up keeping 26 beautiful Sacalait and 1 blue cat. Threw back about 12 smaller sacalait. The largest Sac was 13" and I had 3 more 12" ones. Several others were over 10"s. I decided to stop CATCHING because I had not brought an ice chest and my live well was so packed that I was starting to lose some fish due to overcrowding. It was a "pinch me" I must be dreaming fishing trip that keeps all die hard fisherman up at night because they are too excited to sleep because they are so excited about going fishing in the morning.

There was one bummer moment when the Wild Life and Fisheries passed between me and the bank in order to spray alligator grass weed killer from a tracker flat boat. When asked if the chemical they were spraying would kill the Lilly pads and beneficial grasses that the bass and perch were currently spawning in they said yes it would. So if you see brown Lillies and grass on the banks of Da Bayou in the next few weeks that's our tax dollars hard at work destroying the habitate of the fish we love to pursue on Da Bayou. I attached a picture of the spraying taking place today.

Other than that it was an epic day on the water that will long be remembered and talked about. Special thanks to my mentors Going Catching and Cajun Ray.
