    Default Poverty Point 12/21

Got to the lake at noon, ambient temperature around 49 and water surface temperature the same, cloudy, with ~10 mph east wind. Caught 3 fish in 5 minutes on the first structure I stopped at, and only 2 more for the rest of the day. All fought on hairjigs, which I never fish. Fish were in the deeper water and were in 15-17 FOW. Broke a rod tip on what was likely a catfish. Shad were everywhere and I’m still struggling to determine what are crappie on livescope. Found several brushes that I thought had crappie on them, but unsure because of no bite. I stuck to one poling trying to learn livescope. Generally I’ll spiderrig when there are so many shad that I can’t tell what’s what. I did catch my personal (known) best at 1.89. I’m sure I’ve caught one slightly bigger in the past, but didn’t have scales at the time. Fun day all in all.

I love those days when you hammer them and then crickets.

Those look like some good ones. Have you tried scent? Slab Sauce? Some days are hard but you’ve gotta use the scent, it does matter.

I didn’t try scent. Definitely wish I had tried since I at least thought they were crappie. Bite was really light. Barely enough to feel, but enough to hook themselves.

Some nice catches. Slab and G Sauces work well as do nibbles. I soak my nibbles in Slab Sauce

I have had that happen also, on fire and then crickets! I haven't figured it out.
At least you got on the water, and caught dinner.
