    Default Hwy 51 canals

Has anyone ever fished crappie and had any luck in the Hwy 51 canals? Looks great can’t imagine not have crappie in there.

I haven't heard any reports from there in a few years. Years ago after the work of I-55 was complete the canal became a hot spot for bass bream and sacaulait. That continued for some years but then started tapering off. I imagine the impact of the hurricanes that hit the lake over the last 20 years hasn't helped any. I travel the old hwy every now and then and only see a few boats that have launched. There is a very nice boat launch and parking lot at the Ruddock exit.

All the info given is correct. Several storms over the past 10 years have damaged fishing there. It’s picked up the last 2 years or so as it relates to bass and bluegill/shellcracker. Sacalait are there but you have to work for them. I have better success in the evening. I put in at Ruddock and fish back towards LaPlace.
Thanks shadow, Gentry thanked you for this post
