    Default Better Day at Louis

Went back to Bayou Louie this morning. Tried a shallow area near deep water, nothing. Checked out a shallow cove, nothing. Couple guys spider rigging deeper water, one came close, said he caught a few. Water in the cove was 72 degrees. Wind blowing from deep water towards shallow. The further I went, the warmer the water got. Warm enough to have an 8 to 10 foot alligator cruising about. Caught a couple fish, and tried the side with the steeper drop off. Started catching more fish. Water temperature was 79 to eighty degrees! Even in 10 feet of water. My guess is that the wind blew the warmer surface water into the cove. I was having battery problems so I had to get upwind and drift down using trolling motor to adjust how close to the bank. Most fish were outside the treeline in 4 to 7 feet of water. This was not at all what I expected. Ended up with 15. Threw back 8 or so small ones and broke off the biggest trying to swing it. Fun day! Hope I can get the battery problem sorted out. That lake has some nice fish in it. Some of those fish don't look like they have spawned yet.

Louie has a tremendous crappie population. Lots of little ones but also some nice ones. The females were full of eggs. It is a bit confusing using electronics because there are so many different kinds of fish in there. I caught gou and catfish in addition to the crappie. Also had carp jump out of the water near me idling in shallow water.

That's a good looking box of slabs you have! Good job on the changing conditions too!

Bill’s this time. Is the road to the rocks any better? I went a year or so ago, and the road from 8 to the rocks was awful. The road to Bill’s is rough, but so far no no tire killers. The launch is a test also. He fixed it up a little bit since last year.

I don’t know in feet. It’s about a foot over the pipe rail at bill’s landing. Up 2-3 feet in last 3 weeks.

Went back supposedly after the rain yesterday. Got on the water 10 minutes too early and got a bit wet. Water up another 6 inches. New trolling motor battery, so it was going to be great! Not!! Only had an hour until dark. Didn’t get a bite!!
It is a constant puzzle! Keeps it interesting...
