Ok, guys/gals I have a question for you all. I have a Helix 5 DI GPS G2 but I am also looking at a Helix 7 MEGA SI, MEGA DI, GPS, G3. My question is this - Is the MEGA worth it? Thanks for any help you all can give me.

Just going from 5 to 7 is like dark to day lite. And the mega units are even better. To my eyes they are so much clearer unbelievable. Even if you found a good used gen2 mega.

I have the 7 Gen 2 --- I did the upgrade on the Transducer and has clearer picture like the Mega --- Best Money I ever spent --- My old Sonar would not penetrate all the Shad in the channel to show the Depth but Side Image is Priceless ,,, The fish might be behind you but you know if the structure is on the Right side and how far and you get to go rite to it.

Yes I think Mega is worth it.
If you don’t spend your time fishing deep water.
I fish 35 fow and deeper this time of year, I always use 455.
When I get to go to some shallower lakes Mega is the bomb!

I've got an old Helix 5 DI on my trolling motor. it shows fish and structure pretty well. I got a Helix 9 G2 Mega SI on the console. Just the larger screen make huge difference, and the Mega helps target separation and shows fish below the boat and to the side as well. The autochart live is very helpful for learning the details of your spots, as well as making it safer to avoid obstructions and hazards, you can also download Fishsmart maps for some lake so you can search for lake features such as a depth range. And much more. There's a ton to learn, youtube is your friend! I want a 7 or 8 on the front with 360. With that I could see submerged structure, range and distance, and be able to fish lots of structure others can't see.

With the SI on the console, I can idle along and find brush piles and schools of fish and/or bait. Also look under piers and at bridge pilings and see if there are fish or bait on them.

I see you are from Lake Charles. On thing that is frustrating on all depth fingers is waves! They smear the signal as the boat rises and falls, and rocks back and forth. There is a tarpon guide out of the Tampa area who has some amazing pics of saltwater fish.

Bruce, my buddy Richie Rich said the same thing on his but after we put the same settings on his as I have on mine and now he likes it a lot better. He wants to fine tune it a little more but I can send you pictures of all my settings once we take them, probably Saturday! Here is a picture from mine after I fine tuned it.
