    Default New guy from Lafayette

Hey guys. Long time saltwater (inshore and then offshore) fisherman here. I intentionally fished for sacalait for the first time a few months ago and am hooked. That was at a private lake in Mississippi.

Since then, I've been going out to Whiskey Bay and Half Moon to learn more. It's been great burning less than half a gallon of gas per trip! 14 foot with a 25 four stroke. Haven't had any crazy numbers yet but have always caught enough for a few meals.

A couple of questions for y'all. Is it pretty standard to pick away at them in the summer instead of catching a bunch? That's what I'm seeing not just with me but talking to others fishing and at the launch.

Two, I've noticed that early morning and late afternoon is kind of slow. That's different from the usual fishing that I do where you sometimes see a flurry of activity right at dawn and dusk. If you have a preference, when would you fish in the summer?

Well, I'm glad that there are a couple of places near Lafayette that are somewhat productive. May try one of the well known sacalait lakes soon but that'll be once I get the hang of it some more.

Attaching a few pics of our recent catches. Been using a mix of live shiners, jigs and roadrunners. The roadrunners have been producing the better fish! We rarely catch a small one on a roadrunner.

My schedule is busy but flexible, if that makes sense. In other words, I rarely schedule a trip well in advance and am more likely to decide the day of that I have a few hours to spare to go make a few casts. If any of you are in the same situation or need a fishing buddy sometimes, let me know. We can go on my boat or yours and maybe some of you pros can teach me a thing or two.
