Default New guy with a small boat

Hi guys, new member but I've been reading the site for a while before joining, love the positive vibes here.

I've been fishing off and on for years but this year became fascinated with sac-a-lait. I've been reading through many of the reports of areas withing 1-2 hours from Baton Rouge (where I live). I'm limited though, I just have a 10 foot jon boat with a trolling motor. I've fished Henderson a few times, Krotz Springs, Ruddock, some places in Mississippi. During the summer I average a couple trips a week.

I'd appreciate if someone could point me in a good direction for taking a boat like mine. I know there's plenty of spots, it's overwhelming really. My biggest concerns are boat traffic and current, especially since I normally have one of my sons with me. I was looking around Blind River, are there parts that could be okay for a setup like mine? I'm open to other areas as well.

I'd like to pick a spot and stick with it for a while.

I really appreciate any help you could offer.

to the forum Joe....I mainly fish Henderson....there are a lot of Kayaks out there and I think your set up is safer than those...you do no have to go far to fish after you launch...especially if you launch on the south end along the levee at Basin Landing....or the launch at the rest area....Henderson is OK to fish now but after they open the Morganza spillway gates Henderson will rise another 1 1/2 feet which will make launching almost difficult....

Due to high water, no riding on levees allowed....just read that....

Welcome to the board. With water levels high almost everywhere, I’d try Ramah with your boat. You can launch under the interstate on the east side of the levee. My dad used to take me there in his bateau when I was a kid. Other than that, when Old River drops back down eventually, you could fish close to the launch and find some sacs. Going to be a while before it’s right though.

    Hey NTJ,

I'd fish da north shore rivers. Coyell bay off da Amite. Black lake near Maurepaus. Blood river off da Ticfaw.
The 4th street launch in Covington. You have 3 rivers right there. Perfect for small boats.
