    Default noodler question

How deep do you fish with a noodle, I have always fished close to the surface with yoyo and limb lines, thought I would try noodling and most I have seen on the water have longer lines, any suggestions?

Our noodles are 5-6 foot deep. On Larto, we baited them with shiners for crappie, and caught a mess of them, we also caught a lot of catfish there too. We also noodled on Buhlow lake and the Red river with good results.
I want to fish about 8 foot on the river though, so Im making some 2 foot extensions for my noodles. Im gonna use normal trotline string thats already on the noodles and Im gonna cut it into 2 foot extensions, with a medium sized swivel at each end of the extension. This way, all I have to do is clip my extension to my existing line on my noodles and attach a hook to the other end of the extension via the swivel at that end.
Hmm, that sounds complicated, but basically swivels are my friend.

We only use 3-4 ft as well as everyone else I know of that runs noodles out there on the river.

I have never tried deeper...who knows, that may be the ticket!

We actually use powerade and gatorade 16oz. bottles instead of noodles, and the longest string that we will put on them is 3 feet. Catfish will come to the surface to feed, and like to feed along the banks. With too long of a line they will not make it close to the bank. Here are a couple pics from one of the trips. If it works, don't change it.

You can't fish with a hung line!

Thanks for the info guys, I was thinking, two or three feet, neighbor is made some up with 20 feet, he says the roles up to the depth he wants, seems way to much to me, might as well put out a trotline. I have made my noodles up, just need to line them. Here is my quick and easy way to make the noodle. Cutting noodle to length, take 1/2 inch irrigation tubing and fold in half, about 1-2 inches longer than noodle, tubing end doesn't need to be equal, spray inside of noodle with spray glue, then insert tubing thru noodle until the folded end protrudes about 1-2 inches, I cut the other end of tubing off even with the noodle. You will find it much easier to cut the tubing before you spray the glue, if the glue is tacking you cant get the tubing through the noodle. I will be using 1/0 or 1, hook, these will hold a cat or perch, probably wont use any weight or maybe a buckshot. Hopefully will get to try these out next week some time.

    your mileage may vary
