    Default Almost a disaster!

Got off of work early, so I decided to head to Lake Fausse Pointe. I’ve fished Lake Dautrieve which is attached, but never been to the park area. Launched about 1:30 and had no clue where to go, so I pulled in the first cut I saw to get out of the terrible wind! Opened my rod box to pull out my 11’ BnM and the darn rod broke. Boy was I mad! Grabbed the other one just like it and approached the first cypress tree.

Dropped my jig next to the tree and had my first fish; a bass. From past experiences, it’s never good to catch a fish on the first drop. Moved to the next tree and had my second fish; a nice sac about 13” long. By this time, I forgot about the broken rod and was ready to rock. Dropped the jig once again and caught a small catfish. Now I’m 3 for 3! Boy was I excited, especially for being on new water for the second time this week and catching fish.

Things slowed in that spot so I moved on looking for another spot out of the wind. Moved south and found another cove. Got in there and picked up another bass immediately. As I got to the back of that cove, I hooked a nice sac, but dropped him at the boat. This was about the time things started going downhill. I dropped back in and hooked another sac, but I dropped him at the boat. Now I’m mad after dropping two back to back! Dropped back in and hooked another when my pole got hung in the brush and I lost him! Smoke was prob coming from my ears at this point.

I kept fishing after that thinking it would turn around, but I was never able to get it going. About 4:30, I decided to head back to the landing. Water was real choppy. As I’m crossing the chop, my brand new Garmin Echomap Plus 93sv that I’m using for the second time popped out of its mount and goes overboard. I whipped the boat around, thinking it’s on the bottom of the lake and I’m out $1000 unit, when I see it floating in the chop. I was able to recover the unit and to my surprise; it still worked! I then headed for the landing and never looked back. I've never driven so cautious on the way home! I was just waiting on something else bad to happen.

Well I made it home safe. Having a drink and laughing about it now, but what a disaster that trip could have been. Sorry for the long post, but I felt some of you might need a good laugh. Tight lines!

Pretty lucky with that your unit was floating.

Glad you found the humor in a trying day, life is definitely better with laughs. p.s. You didn’t say just how many drinks it took to bring out laughter? lol

I have a small Garmin unit that keeps jumping out of its mounting bracket also, but stays in place in the same type bracket on the bow. Did the water get in the camp at Saline this year? X 2 on the drink.

It did not Skip. The water is on the driveway with a few feet to spare. If Larto were to get to about 50.5ft, then it will be inside. I'm hoping to dodge it this year. Looks like the Black is starting to fall, but one good rain can change that in a hurry.
