Hi, I am a long time browser and decided to make an account to ask the expertise! So I am getting more and more into crappie fishing these days and would love some of ya inputs on some rods.
Before I had 2 crappie rods, 1 was a BNM Original Buck's (I think) or at least it's very similar, sorry I am currently at work or else I could tell you the exact model and the other rod which I can't remember what brand but it had bright green at the tip and by the handle. Both of these rods had put many of fish in the box but I HATE HATE HATE all the foam or the extra long handles on both of the rods! So I discovered "Waholi's" not sure if I spelled that correct but I think you know which rods I'm talking about. Anyways I went to the Honey Hole to test of the Waholi's and the new BNM Tree thumper 10' poles and the Waholi's felt a tad heavier so I went with the tree thumper. Now with that being said I paired the Tree thumper with the Buck's Ultra Lite Crappie Reel. So the following weekend I went fishing with a buddy of mine and he had the Waholi's 10' with a SPINNING reel, a very small one. I picked it up and was like WOW it is way lighter than my Tree Thumper, I think because of the weight balance of the spinning reel. So my question is what is the lightest 10' pole I can get for the REAR seat reels with less handle instead of all the EXTRA grip/cork/handle on most of the crappie poles. I mainly fish cypress trees and tops when they are spawning and some when they are in the channels in 15-20 ft of water. Sorry it was a long read but I had to explain.
In my opinion the Tree Thumper tip feels a little stiffer, I know it's design for fishing shallower waters but I like that more "sensitive" rod. The BNM ultra lite feels great but no need for all that extra grip and the reel seats doesn't sit in the rear. Not many rods out there that have rear seat design with a shorter handle.
