    Default License Plate Thief

I hate a thief. I launched at the ramp a at Lake Dubison on I 49 around 11 am this morning and remember seeing it while launching. After catching a bunch of small fish and 4 keepers I started to head in around 3 30. Naturely no one at the ramp seen anything so I go to the office at the rest area to see if they can play back the tape from the camera only to find out its been broke for a while. How convenient, state run. In the morning I'm going to the DMV to see how much this is gonna cost. Did I mention I hate a thief, if they would remove the hand at the wrist I dont think we would have as many thieves. Sorry I had to vent but it ruined my fishing trip.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. I feel your pain and frustration, Skippa Chippa. If it was a lifetime plate, the DMV will pro-rate the cost. Last one I had stolen cost me about $21.00. The lady at the DMV said that the thieves target the permanent plates. Kind of make you want to go back to having to renew every two years.

Definitely aggravating and a functional security camera is never in place when needed.
If they are unbolting from your trailer, they do make some anti theft fasteners you can buy online.
Or just tack weld the nut to your bolt, a 1/4 bolt will sheer with enough force but wouldn’t be a bad deterrent.

No use having security cameras if they don't work.

Have a permanent one ---- use 3 ss 5/16" bolts ---- bolt direct to trailer frame ---- grind nut / bolt corners to almost round and bash threads with chisel. At the basin public landing in Pierrre Part the crawfisher men are known for this and they go for the permanent one first.

Sorry for you, I hate a thief and I like the idea of removing the hands.

Basin Landing at Henderson is where I almost lost my last one recently...it was my 3rd one to lose....it was a PERM plate.....I had it bolted and welded to the steel plate holder and when they tried to rip it off it tore two large chunks off the top around the bolt holes....almost impossible to use then so they left it....or, maybe they saw the signs on my truck "security camera in use" and did not want to be seen taking it....cost me $18 to replace....so I made another sign and hang it next to my license plate after I launch....this way they know I have their picture...this one is welded also....

I use 2 push button quick release locks on my plate and just remove the plate at the landing. Since it is illegal to travel without it, I just replace the plate before leaving. It only takes a few seconds to remove and replace. Works good for me and I have never lost a plate.
