My brother in law and I are planning to go night fishing with a submerged green led light...without having a lot of experience with this, I'm unsure what depth would give us the best chances during the summer months. I'm considering Cypress Lake or Caddo, so water depth ranges down to 20 feet or so in specific locations at a max (as far as I know). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Whatever water depth ur fishing, if there is a thermocline make sure you stay above it. As far as area, bait fish is key. The more lights the better. Most of the time u have to wait for the bait to show up before the crappie do. So, be patient but being in a good location to begin with helps a lot. Good luck

Thanks guys. I spent some time last night reading through a lot of the old posts, including a lengthy one started by Bob. Picked up a lot of tips. I'm not sure about the Thermocline, but where I'll be fishing will be about 10-12 feet deep, so I won't have a huge range to work with either way.
Appreciate the feedback.

Ya can't no more do what ya don't know than ya can come back from where ya ain't been!
We hit Black Bayou in Hosston by 6:30 am and fished until noon...caught 10 bream. Couldn't get crappie to bite. Went home for a short nap, then hit the north end of Cypress around 8 pm and fished until a little after 1 am. It took a while, but the green LED light brought the shad and held them, but I only caught 1 crappie on a shiner. Walter tried bottom fishing with worms for catfish, and got a few hits, but didn't catch anything. At least there was a breeze blowing so there were no bugs. Maybe next time it'll be better.
Was the moon out? It's been pretty bright for the last good while at night. My best times are on a dark night with no moon light or just a little.

I had been watching the moon shrinking some each day this past week, so it was less than half showing if it was up, but we were under the center of a bridge, so I didn't see it anywhere. As we were leaving, I didn't even think about it. I was running on 3 hours of sleep the night before and propped up with a 1.5 hour nap Sat afternoon... Hated that we didn't catch much, but I was ready to go. lol With the bream and 1 crappie, along with a bag of bream I had in the freezer, we fed the family last night, so all ended well. I'll try it again another time before the fall and see if I can do better.
