Best advice I ever got was to pick one place and learn it...winter spring summer fall...in the basin learn where to .fish at each water level and on the rise and fall....now I’m sure you don’t have a job or anything(lol) so there will be plenty of time on the water to get this all down....then ya share with others what you have learned and that’s what makes crappie.com what it is...welcome aboard sailor!!!

This time of year, I would hit duck blinds in lake Martin and any deep structure you can find in Henderson. Lake pelba and Bigeaux are the latest reports I’ve been hearing. Haven’t been myself recently. Been targeting red fish the last couple of months. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks all, I've been talking to anyone i can find that fishes the basin area, seems like its just a tough place to learn, but since it is so close I'll consider it a challenge. Think I'll also make every effort to fish/explore other Louisiana lakes (oxbow lakes and so on as suggested). I was invited to Toledo Bend for the weekend, Ill post and share on Monday.
Welcome Bug to the forum. Vet is right about learning the area well. Henderson is a vast area which means there is a lot to learn. Then there is the fact that the water level can rise and fall 10 feet and at each level the fishing changes along with changes in the different seasons. So as you see there are many many different conditions that you will be faced with but its not a reason not to fish but rather a reason to fish and learn. I've only fished Henderson a couple of times and have caught some nice fish even for someone who doesn't know much about the place. I think the best info I can give you is to fish as often as possible and to keep a log of every trip. In your log keep track of the date, time of day, the temperature, the weather, fish caught and on what, and most of all the water level. The water level can be gotten on-line or off of the Pelba gauge when you pass by it on the Interstate bridge. Learn to associate the fish caught at what water levels in what places. You can then look back at your log as the year progress to see what worked in the past at what level and at what time of year. That would be a serious approach, or you can just fish when you can and try many different spot and sooner of later you will catch some fish. It might not be a consistent but it will still be the best time of your life.

Henderson can be difficult to some ( me included). I have had sucess catching a few in alot of places there, but everytime it is different. They key there to me is staying on the fish. I dont fish often enough to get on them early and just run around to find some. I usually start north of the interstate this time of the year in the canals. Moving water is cooler so that is my thought on that. Just keep trying different fishy looking spots until you get one and try to make a pattern out of it for other spots for that day. The next day it will be different.
Good luck.

Welcome!!!
Lake Martin is just about overgrown with grass with no current plans to remedy it.
Henderson would be your best bet. It is just hard to learn but when you do, it provides good fishing.
Here are two maps, one North and the other South Henderson. If you download them, the first will print in potrait and the second in landscape.
The I-10 landing is shown on both maps.
Good Luck.
