Thread: What's the story on Cheniere Lake, and Black Bayou Lake ( near Monroe)?

Looking for options and places to try, other than Poverty Point and Darbonne, within reasonable range of my camp in Tensas... Can someone tell me about these two lakes? Any help would be appreciated...

Call the Honey Hole in west Monroe The guys there fish Cheniere and was showing good catches on a phone last year when I was in the store

Black Bayou has a motor size restriction. Either 40 or 50 hp, I don't remember which for sure. Rumored to have big bream and nice crappie and I've seen a stringer of bass from there that was impressive. Lots of trees to dip around. I can't give you any specific locations, I've only been on it once, but is sure a pretty lake.

Last I knew Cheniere was down probably 8 feet from when the levee gave way a couple years ago. I was there in November and it was like that, not sure if it's been fixed yet.

I don't know much about cheniere other than it has been undergoing a draw down and tree thinning project.

Black bayou does have a 50 hp max allowed. It's a shallow cypress swamp with fairly clear water. It like cheniere is mainly a black crappie lake. Mostly known for spring time crappie fishing and transitions to big bull bream in summer.

I caught a 2 pound one oz Chinquapin Bream on the Bed in 1963 in Cheniere --- I have not got a Crappie that size yet

I can't catch Yucatan right, and when it is "right" I can't catch fish there...

Might also try Lake Lafourche and Woolen Lake near Hebert.
