    Default Bad news.....Maybe

This morning I was watching a recording on CST (Cox Sport TV) which is broadcast to all the southern states, watching Paradise Louisiana. The current show aired maybe Friday had Don Dubuc talking about some changes in the La licenses may be coming up. It hasn't been let out to the public yet, for who knows why, oh so maybe we don't hear enough about it to mount a campaign against it. Anyway, some of the changes include a steep price increase and cutting the number of different licenses for a couple of dozen to only half a dozen. I'm can't remember the numbers but what it amounts to is when you will purchase a license it will be one license for many activities all at once. Although he didn't go into detail it would be something like, you buy one hunting license for all hunting weather or not you do a particular type of hunting, and the same with fishing. One of the proposals has the lifetime license going to $1000 for any age. Now like I said these are only proposals right now but be prepared to see some of it happen soon. maybe that is why they are working on the license process right now, and you won't be able to buy one for a couple of months. Don had a publication in his hand which he said came from an un-named source which had the proposals in it. So be prepared to open you wallet wider.

The show also had some footage of a recent trip to the Orange Grove area. There was also mentioned the Bluebird canal. They mentioned that someone had published that the Bluebird was hot and when one of his friends tried to go there he said you almost had to buy a ticket to get into the canal. He showed pictures of Bob's Marina in Bayou Black overflowing with vehicles, and this was the middle of the week. The footage they showed was one of our favorite canals that has been good to us for years. Now I know why I meet so many people at the landing and in the Intracoastal Canal lately looking for the Bluebird or Orange Grove. They haven't a clue but heard it somewhere that the area was hot. Yesterday someone at the launch ask me where I was from, and I said, here. I wondered why, and a guess now I know. He was probably from out of town. I wondered why the landing at Cannons was packed to the brim on a Friday. I had to wait for someone to leave to be able to park. The Word is out.

Thanks Gene, however I'm not surprised. Of course they'll make it harder for us to get something. I just called a few folks and told them to go head and get it for their new borns.

I watch that episode Thursday night PPG. Don said no increases proposed on the commercial side.
They have to do something to generate funds to run the department.

These are the folks that make policy.

Des Allemands was like a circus yesterday too. Happens every year. I was fishing behind least a dozen boats.;(

Yeh, but I wouldn't think increasing the lifetime license to $1000.00 would help increase their revnue. Most folks that I know that have bought them, did so for their new borns or young kids because it's affordable. You take that to a $1000.00 I bet the sells fall off. Of course this is if they do it.

I understand the increase in normal licensing. With low cash flow for the department they have to generate it somehow. I just hope they leave the lifetime licensing alone.

I understand also those guys do alot for us. A couple really good friends of mine are possum cops. So i know they need more funds for gear, training, and such. Heck they have spent a fortune on bistineau fighting the salvania and other area lakes.

Lost goose I can agree with you. I don’t understand why it can’t be funded by the legislature. With all the useless things they do with “OUR” money you would think they could fund a part of our government.

It's already started. Here's the link to the lifetime applicaiton.

    http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/sites/d...icense_app.pdf

You'll see there's a lot more categories and even lifetime holders have to purchase licenses for traps, etc. I bought one for my grandson when he was born for $100 and now they're $200! Lifetime combos used to be $300 for adults and now it's $500. (There goes my son's birthday present)
The only upside I can see is maybe it'll deter some of the coulyons from getting on the water. Sometimes you can walk from boat to boat in certain spots and half of them have never driven a boat before and some are just downright rude. I refuse to fish on the weekends because it's too dangerous. I've had several close calls mostly from some guy in a $60k bass boat with a 1000hp engine blowing by. Thank goodness there's only a few of them out there. Be safe guys.....
