I was in the same boat a few years back. What gear do you take without getting carried away. Now when I go down I take 2-12' BGJP's. 2-10'6" jig poles and a couple of shorter rods in the 6'6'-7' range for bobber fishing. We take a good supply of jigs and plastics, bobbers, hooks and weights. We use a floating minnow bucket that we keep in the live well to keep our shiners alive and a couple of small buckets to put a few at a time in when we're fishing.
D'arbonne has a distinct channel so I would start in the channel using your electronics to find schools of shad, the crappie will be close by. I've had good luck floating a shiner under a slip bobber on the channel edges. We've used the same set up up on the flats. We're not set up for spider rigging so if we fish jigs it's a couple of poles each and we have done good at times like that.
I'm by no means an expert but we catch a few fish every time out and are more than happy to tell you how and where we're catching them. We'll be down that week, too so shoot me a PM when you get down and I'll share some info with you.

I've been numerous times for the fall gathering, but haven't made spring trips since it's a couple hours from me. If you haven't heard, it's a very stumpy lake, so I don't know how well long-lining would do for you. There may be some areas of the lake where it's possible, but I haven't seen them. Spider rigging in the channel is ok if you maintain a reasonable depth and stay in the channel. I tried it once with DocWaldo and had 4-5 poles hung at the same time. Next day I stuck with one pole, 2 hooks. I've got a few favorite spots in the channel, and always been surprised at how deep the channel is compared to either side of it. The stump line by Hwy 33 bridge has a 10 foot difference in dept from one side of the stumps to the other which is about 5 ft away or less, and I've drifted from 25 ft water in the channel over to 3 ft deep outside the channel markers when my dept finder was on the fritz one year and it was really foggy that morning.
Great place to fish though, and hope you have a great time. Just take your time easing around outside of the channel...at least that's my 2¢ for what it's worth.
