So sorry to hear, I've followed his writing as well. An excellent author on fishing, he was an exceptional drilling foreman as well - I know. Thanks for letting us know Dwayne, and the pictures Bruce. Comforting to know he died in his sleep at home. RIP Pete.

I never met him, but it sounds like he was the kind of friend we'd all enjoy hanging out with. Dwyane, my condolences for your loss of your friend, and to his family. Prayers sent for peace and strength in this difficult time.

Catch Cormier posted this earlier today in the La Fly Fish forum about Pete.

"This morning we learned that our friend and fly fishing legend, Pete Cooper, had passed away. According to his wife Barbara, Pete had been placed in hospice care after losing his battle to his latest resurgence of cancer.
To list all of Pete's accomplishments would take a couple hours, so I'll be brief and state what most everyone knows. Pete was a fly fishing legend. Yes, he pioneered saltwater fly fishing in Louisiana. And yes, he mentored many of us who came to the sport in the mid 80s - and beyond. And yes, he wrote countless numbers of articles on fishing of all types and authored several books, mostly targeted at his favorite sport (fly fishing).
But the measure of a man is what he was to everyone. At times Pete could be a curmudgeon, a traditionalist who scoffed at such things as spoon flies. But make no mistake - no better friend there was than Pete. If you needed something, Pete was willing to help and share. As someone who has organized dozens of events, whenever I asked Pete if he could do something, he was willing and able. And always came through. He loved teaching others, and did it with passion and in such fashion that everyone came away inspired and entertained.
The few times I fished with Pete I came away knowing why he was golden. Few people shared his energy and enthusiasm for each cast, for each fish landed was it's own reward.
Pete was the greatest. It was a divine blessing to have known him"

Yes he was. I too am glad to have know him.RIP Pete

A great fisherman he was plus much more.

To you who didn't know Pete in person, by his writings, or by his prowess as a fisherman, teacher, and all around good guy here is a little of his accomplishments.

Pete Cooper, Jr. has spent the better part of the past 40 years fishing. Elected to the Louisiana Sportsman's Hall of Fame in 2003, Cooper has taught statewide seminars on fly fishing and has published numerous articles in state, regional and national magazines. He is considered a pioneer of saltwater fly fishing in Louisiana. He's held several state fly-fishing records, published almost 500 magazine articles, and is the author of Redfish and Fly Fishing the Louisiana Coast. He lived in Broussard, LA.

    Rest easy Pete,
