    Default Basin Knowledge

I am really trying to expand my knowledge of the basin. I have started developing my own system of where to go, depending on water levels and I have done well. However, the basin is so vast, where does one start. So, if I may pick yall's brain...how do yall determine where to go? what river gauges do you prefer? what part of the basin do you fish at your preferred water level?

This is a good question, I will be following closely. I just started last summer fishing for sac a lait in the basin and even though I do not catch very many I enjoy it very much. This year so far has been much more successful for me, maybe because it is easier earlier in the year during the spawn. I fish mostly Henderson and sometimes by catahoula

I generally look towards the north part of the basin (Henderson area) when the butte larose gauge is at 10' and falling. As the water falls I try to chase the falling water south. The basin is just so big its hard to learn. I have started producing good numbers when I focused on fishing canals with bank. When the basin is rising, I focus on the bayou black area. I'm pretty sure the steps I'm taking are correct but it's been tough learning new areas

I fish the basin some when I can't go to my camp at Saline/Larto, being that it is 10 minutes from house. I use the Lake Pelba @ I10 gauge on the USGS website. I have had the most success when the water was between 8-11 feet. I'm no expert when it comes to the place though, so any information I might give would just muddy the water(no pun intended) lol. However, the best white perch trips I've had was when the water was at 10.5' in both the north and south flats. I also had some really good bream trips with my family last year as they were draining it and the water was falling out of the south flats. I've fished a lot of other areas there with some luck, but just like Saline/Larto; timing is everything. Certain areas at certain times of the year with certain water temps. Sorry I can't help with this place, but I'll be keeping an eye on this post.
