    Default Henderson 1/16

The success of a trip is not always measured by the catch. After months of trying to schedule a trip around doctor appointments and other conflicts, I was finally lucky enough to spend a morning in the boat with my WW II Battle of the Bulge veteran friend. The total catch was only 2 bass and a goo but the time together was invaluable.

Difficulty getting in and out of the boat and up and down from the deck indicates there aren't many trips left in his future but the smile when casting his Roadrunner or tightlining his jig are priceless. I almost feel selfish spending time with him and yet he is so thankful to be able to go. I just wish we had been able to find a few sac au lait for him to take home.

If you ever have the opportunity to take an old veteran, or even a young one, don't pass it up.

I was out there too and I wish I could have met him. I had no luck catching fish either.

I understand and as my dad is an old Navy veteran, I try to take him as often as possible. You are right, success is not always measured by your catch!

Sounds like a great trip CajunPop. Next time you see you buddy tell him tanks for his service, and the same to you. Is it possible for him to fish from the cockpit of the boat and not have to get and down from the deck. Or do as I do for my wife, I have a small folding step stool that cuts the distance from the floor to the deck in half so it's much easier to get up and down.
