    Default Long rod setup

Ive always used 4'6"-5' setups for panfishing. I am looking at getting a long pole setup for dropping jigs close to brush/structure. I have no idea where to start when deciding on a rod. This style of fishing is new to me. Rod length is what I'm really unsure of.

I prefer a 10 ft with bottom mounted reel seat. Have several different brands. Favorites are Quantum (not in production anymore) and a Wohali (Think it is brush cutter series) it is gray in color. The blue ones are to limber to suit me. B&M makes several different models that some of the other members use. Ozark rods make some nice looking rods also but have never fished with them.

    Mike:
I learned to jig with a 8.5' fly rod many years ago. But alas, I stepped on it in my boat and it's no more. BassPro sells Uncle Buck rods in different lengths and some are collapsable down to about 3.5' so they fit in your trunk easily. I tried a couple of different lengths until I settled on the 10 footers. I think now I'm ready for a more expensive rod but these are doing so good it's hard to replace them. I only paid 15.00 each for them. (And no, I don't work for BassPro!) LOL
    Good fishing.

I just checked my B'N M catalog and the Bucks Ultralite 10 ' with bottom reel seat will run you $56 plus shipping. This is a good pole if you are going to be using it a lot. it's super lite. However , there are some other B"N M poles that cost less, but this would be my choice. I think Academy carries a good selection of B'NM poles.

I just saw a member named Gabepeeps has some brand new Mr. Crappie Shaker rods for sale in 10' and 12' length for $25. I don't know these rods, but this may suit your needs. Better hurry though. He posted this yesterday and he's almost sold out.

i have over 200 jig poles. i have from 8 footers to 14 footers. it all depends on how im fishing as to which ones i use. when im holding a jig pole in each hand, i opt for the 8-10 footers. they are much lighter. when i spider rig, i use the longer ones since i dont have to hold them. the advantage of a longer pole is you can reach the structure with out having to get right on top of it. good luck and get ya one and try it. you will love it!!

There must be a story about how you came to acquire so many poles.
