Default Article states gates closed at D'Arbonne

When I was camping at the park last weekend, we were handed a news paper and the headline was that the gates might stay open into next year to fight salvinia, and the original plans were to close them on Nov 15. Yesterday this article came out stating they're now closed. Not sure which is 100% accurate, but I wouldn't mind if they closed a little early so we could still launch for the gathering. Anyone local that can confirm first hand?

i talked to waylon yesterday, one of the owners of TATERBUGS. a new tackle store right by the launch at jakes. he said the closed the gates yesterday morning. so if we get some rain before 10 november, it might be up a little by then. but he did confirm thats the gates are closed for good.

i meant to post this yesterday, but i got busy.

According to someone that posted on a facebook page I follow.... Jakes , spillway, hog pen. Hwy 2 ramp.rd.. Gills

I only know where 2 of those are. I went out at Jakes, and saw people at Hwy 2 on the East side of the bridge. The West side was closed.

Yes, I noticed this last Tuesday while fishing D'Arbonne Bayou that there was zero current coming down the bayou and I knew they had closed the gates. I assume they pulled the lake down the desired 5 feet and closed the gates.

Almost everyone probably knows that Jakes is at the Hwy 33 bridge, just south of Farmerville and the Hwy 2 launch is about 5 miles west of Farmerville on Hwy 2.

The Spillway launch is located at the dam east of Farmerville. You go about 2-3 miles east of Farmerville on Hwy 2 and turn right on Spillway Road. This will take you to the spillway launch, which is on the right at the end of the road.

Hog Pen launch is a little harder to find. It is located almost halfway between Farmerville and Bernice. I could get to it, but doubt that I could tell anyone else where to turn since I have forgotten the road names. Sorry. Google Earth might help you find the launch should you decide to launch there. If you launch there you will be limited as to where you fish. The Hog Pen is quite a ways from D'Arbonne Lake on Corny Creek. With that said, a person might do worse than launching at Hog Pen. I have never fished up Corny with the lake down 5 feet, but have caught good fish up there in the past.

During the last drawdown we tried to launch at the Spillway. we backed way out and could not get the boat in deep enough to remove it from the Trailer --- there were no others parked that day and we cancled that trip... About a week later there was a Lake Comm. meeting that I attended.. At that Meeting I got to ask about the Launch site at the Dam --- the very Center of the ramp has a deeper spot to launch during drawdowns ,, or Pontoon boats. It gave me the chance to also tell them about the Washout at the end of the 33 ramp... there was discussion about looking into the washout during the next drawdown

During the last drawdown I was able to launch at the Spillway on the Point side of the lake, no such luck this year. I launched at Jakes yesterday, only issue was loading back up. The ramp is really steep and had trailer backed in to far. The water level is really shallow leaving ramp towards the Darbonne dinner also. Be safe!
