Okay it's not a crappie but it still was fun on a jig pole.

I caught one of those ugly jokers on 8 lb. line and a 10 ft. jig pole that I "guesstimated" to weigh about 30 lbs. was up near the high line on the bayou. Probably fought him for 15-20 minutes. Black/chtrs tube jig !

Yes indeed, I've had my fun with one of those also. Linda and I were riding around just sightseeing and we ended up on the Attakapaw landiing on Lake Verret, the one Bruces launches at. After watching the goings on, Linda reached into the van and pull out her rod and reel. It was a Diawa mimi-spin, travel rod. The rod was 4'-10" I think and the reel was a model 500 spooled with 4 pound test line. Well my wife will be my wife and of course she has to catch the darnedest thing. She was fishing in the slough on the opposite side of the parking area from the boat launch. She hung what she thought was one of the cypress knees which line the slew and called me over. As I was getting there she starting hollering that she had something on her line. The something proceeded to swim to the end of the parking area and head out into the lake. For a while I thought she was going to be follow the fish into the lake. She finally tired and said here, take this. I fought that fish for around 20 minutes as it made 2 runs back into the slough and then back into the lake. By that time a crowd had gathered to watch the fun as I fought that "thing" on the end of the line. As people would ask, Linda would explain how she had hook something big on her little pole with 4 pound test line and gave the pole to me. Some were saying that I would never land it whatever it was on such light tackle. Finally the fish tired and I brought it to the surface. Someone produced a net and landed it for me. I wish we would have had cell phone cameras back then. The fish turned out to be a big old carp and it was guesstimated to weight around 30 pounds. There was no end as to how proud Linda was that I beat the odds and landed it. You never know what you'll catch when you tie on a blue and white tube jig or you put a fishing pole in Linda's hands.

I didn't weigh it but it took awhile to get it in and back out of the boat.
