Crappie are probably done for the spring. Heard a few reports of bream and catfish last week or so.

Now you know there are people that fish PP other times than in the spring at spawn. Probably not as crowded either. I will make a road trip out there this summer and let ya know how it turns out. Can't be much worse than some of my trips close to home. And the water is cleaner.

That's true but those folks don't talk about it if they are catchin. I would think Poverty would be a good place to pull some cranks. Isn't anyone fishing Poverty Point now?

That place is hard to catch fish in when the weather gets hot, people with boat houses or piers with holes in them close to deep water will catch, plus they always fishing the boat slips at night and do pretty good, but if you don't have a boat slip you out of luck.

I fished PP for 4.5 day the week after Easter every chance I could. It rained 3 times and the wind blew me off of the lake 2 times. I considered myself to be fishing pretty hard. I covered a lot of water and different depths in several different parts of the lake. I fished water 2 feet deep to 12 feet deep and I caught 10 fish all week. And, I threw back 2 of them. I will say that the 8 I kept were good fish; the smallest 1.25 lbs. and the largest 2 lbs. on the button. What really amazed me was the lack of fish I marked on the depth finders. After covering several miles of slow riding and fishing during the week, I marked very few fish on the depth finder. And, some of them probably weren't crappie.

In defense of the lake; I will say this; 1. I had a terrible week of weather, but when you book the lodge months in advance you take the weather the good Lord gives you and you go fishing. 2. I am not as good of a crappie fisherman as many of those who go and do well on the lake; people like bobfish11. I believe Mr. Bob could catch a crappie out of a road ditch that it just rained in. 3. It is not always about the catching. I did have a good time giving it my best shot. I was able to spend some quality time with my wife, one of my daughters, and 2 of my grandchildren. But, on the other hand, when you spend that kind of money for a fishing vacation, you do hope to catch more than 10 fish.

That is my 2 cents worth on PP. It is a great fishery, although I don't think it is as good as it was 10 years ago.
