Default No News...but figured I'd post it.

I managed to take off to Black Bayou in Hosston on Saturday. Beautiful day to be on the lake. But this is one of those reports most people don't post.... I effectively got skunked.

Started off the day fishing the bank with a small beetle spin...nada
Had some rigged noodles with me, so I dropped 3 in the water with shiners...nada (even found the shiners alive on the hook about 5 hours later)
Tried shiners under a cork around trees....nada
    Tried nightcrawler under a cork....nada
Tried jigs...finally had a hit on the grey ghost. It was a bream about 1.5 inches long and I snagged the outside of his jaw (which is why I said effectively skunked lol)
    Tried water 3 ft deep...tried 4, 5, 6, 7 feet deep....nada

Everyone I spoke to hadn't caught anything. One guy leaving his camp said they'd caught good a couple of weeks prior with yo-yo's, but that he hadn't caught a fish there in 4 days on a pole. Then when I spoke to CD and he said they'd caught 8 good ones on Cypress shallow, and someone else caught some on Caddo, I wondered if maybe ALL the crappie are up under the salvinia beds along the banks? Could be they're all in there spawning and no one can reach them. I'm going to keep telling myself that anyway. I know it wasn't just me. lol Guess there's always next time.
You all stay dry this week...going to be a wet one.

Only one way to find out, go into the salvinia and punch through it or use a pole to open up a small hole to fish through. It can be very effective.

hate the skunked part...but in fact these reports are as helpful to others as much as a cooler full..and it was not you....the fish were not cooperative or hungry at the time.

Don't feel bad, I know of me and two other boats that had a total of one crappie Saturday on Hosston.

After you open up a hole put a round Styrofoam donut in it so it will not close back up....get them at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc....

All reports are good reports Scott! As Tal said, this is just as good a report as a cooler full is b/c it helps people decide where to go or not go. Thanks for the report.
