It's not a bluegill. I have caught tons of bluegils and know what they look like. Thanks for your input though.

It's not a redear (chickapin as we call them down here). I have caught tons of them too. If you look at the first picture, the bream in the middle on the top is a redear (chickapin). Thanks for the reply.

I would quit fishing once I couldn't close the ice chest. I use to feed a bunch of people back then......Lol. I use to fish Cocaine Lake, Humble, 45, and C Y canals. Those canals in the back hold a lot of sacs. If it would of come back 4 years ago I would of bought a 25 hp instead of a 50 hp outboard. I still have my old 15/42 Marsh Special Alweld in the back yard. I might have to look for a 25 hp next year.
Don, give me a call sometime and we can make a trip out there. I know most of those areas you are talking about but not all of them. I was fishing in the front marsh. I went in the back the other day and there was a lot of giant sylvania clogging up several of the canals.

Pastor, coppernose is what I was leaning towards also. Just have never caught them in this marsh before but after Rita anything is possible. I caught him on the same spinner bait that I was catching the bass on and that is why I had thought goggle eye at first, then I looked closer at him when I went to clean him. Thanks for the reply.

It's a chinquapin. There's a bit of variation in the species, and not all individuals have the red fringe on the "ear". This really isn't as hard if you start at what's available and then figure out what it's not. I

Hey I would love too. I am on break in May and can any day then. I have a friend that has a camp at the end of Lil Chaniere Rd. I might be able to get access to launch in the back to avoid the long run. I here most the places I use to fish are either grown over or choked with sylvania.

Went out at 12:30 fished till 6:30. Caught my limit of bass (10) and 3 bream. Here are the pictures.

The 2 best for me today

Any body know what kind of bream this is? I thought it was a goggle eye at first b/c of the mouth but the mouth isn't big enough then I thought chickapin but the mouth is to big for a chick. My best guess is a copper nose bream but I didn't think they had any in this marsh. Looks like a google eye/chickapin cross but I don't think they interbreed? What do yall think?

After looking again... Chinquapin but the mouth is smallOne of my favorite marshes has made a good recovery! One of my favorite marshes has made a good recovery! One of my favorite marshes has made a good recovery!

    Here you go.

The first one in question is a goggleeye/bluegill. Mix. From time to time you get a little mix breeding and that fish is a great example. Shape and mouth of a bluegill with coloration and scaling of a goggleeye
