Default April Louisiana Sportsman - Henderson

Interesting article this month about a fella that fishes there regular - Murphy Royer. With his jig poles, he cuts all the guides off except the one closed to the reel. Then he drills a hole in the shaft at an angle, as well as cut the tip off and glues on a rivet. The lines runs through the pole and out the rivet. He uses Slater reels. Interesting I thought. His main area is in north flats. Good read - I like printed material

The article is a few pages long with several pictures, even with one that shows the rivet glued on the tip. I liked the picture that shows two seats up front with a cutout in the deck where he drops his cooler into. Right into the ice they go without getting up. Unfortunately, there wasn't a place for the minners (he ties his own jigs).

I use a JD Courtney rod that is similar. I love it no line wrap on the rod. Very sensitive.

That's what he was saying, modified B&M rods. Also has a special rake to make a hole in the Hydrilla to drop a line into. Bruce told me at the Toledo Bend gathering he has something similar.

Interesting. Guess I need to buy this issue.

I made me a rake today. I took a hand held weed rake or pronged hoe what ever its called and fastened it to a pool pole. Light weight too. I will post pics Saturday of it in use.

BnM makes a telescopic jig pole....no eyes and a reel built in the handle and the line runs inside the pole.....comes with a length of small guage piano wire to re-thread the line through the rod with.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Years ago I used a pole similar to Murphy's that I had made. It had some advantages but restringing was a pain, (used a real light wire to run through the pole) and using 1/32 jigs were hard to pitch. I saw the video with La. Sportsman and had not noticed the poles Murphy was using. There are probably a ton of crappie under those lilly pads, it takes a more patient Name: IMG_5571.jpg

Size: 68.1 KB fisherman than me to get to them….still it was good to see somebody that had figured out how to get to them consistently. Went to Henderson Wed., muddy water messing up Bijoux. Kept 12 good sac au lait and 3 real nice bass. Two days earlier I kept 32 sac au lait from the same area. Fish were caught about 18 inches deep, black/chart. 1/24 wooly bugger worked well in that muddy water. If it doesn't rain too much tonight, I'll give them a try tomorrow.
