Default Fishing without a boat near Lafayette

    Hi all,
Good morning to ya. Where do those who live in Lafayette go fishing without a boat? I know there is a pretty nice pier in Mandeville and another one coming soon in St. Tammany.
Is there another pier closer that is worth it? Is Calcasieu point a pier where I can catch some specks? I would only like to catch a 5 or less fish.
    Have a great day
    Kevin

Have you considered picking up a kayak and tried fishing out of it. Kayaks will open up many more opportunities and won't break the bank

Yes sir. Great suggestion. I'm still a newbie to fishing and once I get my bearings then that's a probable course of action. However until that time, a pier would be my best option.

I don't know about any piers for catching trout but I believe so,e people have success surf fishing at Holly beach in Cameron. I've never fished there so I can't really give more info than that.

    goodluck!

I've heard they were catching specs and reds at Calcasieu Point earlier in the summer, haven't heard anything lately. There is Cypremort Point St. Park on the east side of Vermillion Bay, there should be specs in the bay now. Don't know how good fishing is around the pier, but you don't know unless you try.

First off welcome! Good to have another Lake Charles guy on here! Like they said a Kayak would be a great option. I went a little while back in my canoe on the north end of big lake and did pretty good for only going out for an hour. Cal. Point is a decent option from the bank.

There's also the Cameron Jetty Pier, this might be a great spot to try, its a not very far from LC.

X-2 when I was starting out I caught some really nice fish there. Speck action is best at night from the jetties.
