I would be real upset if something I ordered and was wanting really bad showed up like that!! I can go buy a bnm pole from my local outdoor store that will last forever and I don't have to heat shrink the Handel.
Well the other day I was looking at my poles salters rods and B&M rods. Because of the joint where two pieces slide together was the same color thread, I took electric tape off one and Look at there it's a B&M pole. J B took the eyes off, put different eyes on plus one more , changed the thread color to yellow.

About 20 years ago, a friend of mine and me were discussing about this and he had a broken Salters and I had a broken BnM. We took the Salters apart and found the same thing you did. After some research, we found out that they both use the same rod blanks from another company. The tape gives the Salters a different feel and all the other custom items make it what it is. BnM puts their label on it and fixes it up like they want. The reason we decided to take them apart was because my friend was saying that for $20-$35 dollars more per pole for the Salters, that it was a better pole. I argued that it wasn't, and that it just had pretty yellow tape to make it fancier. They are both good poles (since they're made from the same blanks!) but I'll never pay the extra money for the extra weight from the same pole.

>Your partially correct. Most rods come from china. What name that's on the rod really doesn't matter. I have a bunch of Slater rods out of MS. that Mr. Salters customized them for me. Same rods. Mr. Salter was finally able to order his custom rods from China. These rods are different. The reel still needs to be customized. There is no tape on these rods.
Yes Mr. Salter cut the guides off and replace them with his guides that were made with stainless wire. He added the extra guide close to the reel.
He started making jig poles with cane poles and safety pins. Most of the folks back then used fly rods to fish jigs with. I'm talking 1960's.
There are U tube videos showing his style of casting a jig with his rod. Here's one but there are dozen out there. https://youtu.be/RvXrnux_Crg
You have to realize he sold/made a custom rod that he designed and has a different style of casting the jig.

I have one, when the wife lets me touch it.
It's special.
I think there's a method to every setup. You can get close but not close enough.
I can't even remember how to cast these days, much less "shoot", but this mans style was truly visionary.
I still am not comfortable with it.
But I've seen what the style can do by a great fisherman and was humbled years back by a guy westward that liked sammiches.
