    Default Darbonne:What a difference a year makes....

Last year was a very good year according to Darbonne standards. This year or fall/winter appears to be a very slow one. I have gone several times and I'm feeling pretty good if I catch 15. Also today I told my partner at the Stowe creek takeoff at the main channel that with school out for the holidays and this beautiful weather and cold water temps that we would see 30-40 boats between here and the bridge. I saw maybe 7-8 on the whole lake. I see others fishing and talk to others and its not just me. I would like to hear opinions from you pros out there about the state of Darbonne. The lake looks good except for being 1.5 ft low for months. This may have something to do with it??? I also know that on my fishfinder I'm not seeing the numbers that I saw last year. Whats happnin???

Maybe that is where they went? Lots of people caught lots of fish!

    What do you think?

I had to go to Farmerville today on business. This afternoon at4:45 I drove South back across the hwy 33 bridge. I noticed that there was only one boat that I could see on the lake. Ther were not any vehicles at the public launch. I figured that as pretty as today was there would be a crowd but there wasn't.

Well I no expert but when the water turkeys don’t fish it there something bad wrong. there was a lot of um that stopped in there in the early fall but they done packed up their suitcases and left. I only been one time this year that was about three weeks ago. I did not get much fishing in mainly to check out a boat that I had bought . I went down below the spillway the other day just looking around the water is low and there is no shad so it may be dead this year also. john

I think it's just slow right now. We had record highs just the other day so the fish probably don't know what to do with 30 degree nights and 70-80 degree days. Greenlantern and myself caught 35 and 47 in 2 trips back mid-November down from Jakes but haven't been back with duck/deer season being under way. There were also more shad than I've ever seen so I don't think anything like a population depletion is taking place. Also talked to a one guy that averaged 30 a trip longlining around the same time. Hopefully it will pick up soon, I'm about ready to get back out on the lake.

A catch of 25-35, with some real good ones, was not unusual for the first two weeks of December. Since then the numbers have gone down to 10-15 with a few good ones. The fish are still in the channel approx. 12-16 feet deep. Straight minnows are by far the best, real slow in 25-30 FOW. The fish are grouped up in small areas of the channel generally in tight turns on the outside edge. If you catch one, better circle the wagons for a while. Have seen very few above Terrell Island boat run. Over all, way down from last year. A week of stable weather will work miracles.

I agree. I've seen very few on my ff above Stowe Creek. Above the bridge to Forks Ferry showing very few fish. Last year I remember seeing many more fish just about everywhere along the channel moving down the channel as the winter progressed. This is the strongest indication that I've seen to compare with. I've seen much more shad this year. Could it be a result of fewer fish? (Sacalait)
