I stopped by today and talked to the lady that runs the bait shop. She said they should turn on in a couple weeks. Water level looks good but the visibility is about 8 inches. The water is a green color. Maybe we were there at the same time. I was driving a silver Toyota Tacoma.

Spanish Lake is the second biggest mistake in Louisiana, unless you are after catfish, carp, or buffalo. Anything else, you can thank politics for the lack of it. Politics! And that's fact, not opinion!
Oh, what's the first? How about the section of one-lane interstate highway in Baton Rouge.
    Aren't you proud?

Yes Pete they spent lots of money on that place to raise snakes and shoe-pic. Now you can't even have a trot line there now. So I bet the catfish have taken over. A few years after they had drained it, they had some small trees come up around the rip rap. The fishing was good that year. The next year they cut all the trees down. I still don't understand that. I have caught a few in the bayou on the other side of the levee.

About the only way you'll catch a sacalait at Spanish Lake, is by bringing your own. Went there several times and fished hard with no success. There isn't any more fish in that lake except for catfish and alligators. Good luck to you how venture there..
