    Default SELA: Bayou Lacombe

Very likely headed that way this weekend. Anyone been there lately or have any tips? I'll report what I find either way.

NST, the only activity I've heard of lately from the southeast is the Saint's won the Superbowl. So I guess we can thank them for the cold weather that won't let up. LOL

    Hey NST,
I was going to go to Lac Des Allmends, but to much wind so
I fished the Tchefunchta for a few hours today. The water is low and muddy. I caught about 8 good sacs and another 8 throw backs. I used blue and white, chart and black, chart and blue tubes and a mardi gras hair jig. caught fish on all of them.

That devil lookin like pere noel this year eh PPG?!

Thanks J_R. I was thinking about the canals off the tchefuncte but opted for something closer to home. It depends on how many people want to come along with us, but I may switch to that venue anyway. I have some roadrunner hair and feather jigs that I tied up that I will be trying out along with the standby tubes. Orange head w/ purple and orange w/ chartreuse.

I'll keep you posted on where and how we do LT.

There is a deep hole just down river from the 4th street launch. It's in the first bend. You can see it from the launch. Full of fish when the water is cold. Most of my little ones came from that hole. I don't care much for fishing deep. I'd much rather fish docks, piers and laydowns. I caught my big fish on a couple of laydowns.

Got started a lil late at the main st. launch, but I don't think it would have mattered much if we had been on the water on time. I hooked a monster slab but lost him at the boat. Nothing peeves me more when I am fishing then seeing the fish and loosing it. I was setting out to vertical jig and didn't have my hand on the reel yet when he took it so I set the hook and retrieved him by hand. Easy work because it was wickedly lethargic, but as soon as my head turned to grab my net he shook his head and that was it. I'd wager it was 2# or better. I missed a strike from a bass or a gar on a spinner bait later in the morning. Was nice to be on the water, but it's still a lil cold for the sacs to heat up. Water was really low and very stained. I fished piers and laydowns. While my sonar had battery power I saw some fish on the bottom near a ledge in 14 fow but could not get them to bite. The one I hooked was in at least 10 fow and less than 5 feet down. Hooked him on a hand tied roadrunner with a palmered chartreuse collar with white hackle tied in like a deceiver in the back. I'd show a pic, but I lost it on the next snag.

When the water's muddy in the tchefuncte, hit the rice field. Muddy water takes a few days to get back there, if at all. There's a few holes that hold decent sacalait, but not the monsters that you find in the river. Also try the stump field in front of the state park's boardwalk, big sacs. That's deep fishing though. Some BIGGGG bass hang out there and arent afraid to take what you hook!

North Shore...I use to fish Bayou Lacombe a while back, I remember many days catching bull bream and reds from the same area. I'm a member of LKFC, we will be in your area March 13th, I'm leading a trip on the tchefuncte.
Your not fishing, unless your crappie fishing!

    LKFC?
    Mark me interested.

I've fished the rice field a few times. I have a small boat with trolling motor that I tote around in the back of my truck. I usually drop in by the bridge in the guste island subdivision. It's my fav. place to go b/c of the size of the sacalait. Most places, you catch a few 14-16" fish every once in a while, but the first warm up after the hard colds I was catching numbers of those fish. The drainage pipe by the bridge can turn a bad day around FAST.
Thats the only place I go since I'm limited with my boat, but I'd be interested in hearing more about the location and some specifics on that stump field, if I can fish it?
