    Default Larto-Saline advise

Looks like I have lost my duck lease therefore I plan on doing some fall crappie fishing. Normally I spend Oct. getting blinds ready. Man I am going to miss that. Anyway I fish Larto in the spring, however never in the fall. I know people catch them in the middle drifting, but that is not really my cup of tea. Are there fish to be caught around some of the deeper cypress trees in the fall. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Talking to some friends of mine this weekend, they said the past two weeks they've been catching several on cork and shiners in about 5-7 foot of water. You a jig or shiner type?

Thanks for the response. I fish jigs. I'm looking for ways to catch fall fish other than drifting in the middle. I love to fish structure. I know from spring fishing on Larto that there are a number of cypress trees in water 4- 5 feet deep. Just wondering if a man could catch some fish in this type water once we get a couple of cool fronts. I have been fishing Larto in the spring for several years, last spring I made the run over to Saline and spent one day. What a beautiful lake!! Which one do you prefer and why? Thanks again.

I have never really fished it in the fall, only in the winter and spring, with the exception of the little summer tourney we had the other day. We caught some in the bayou in around 10 fow tightline trolling/drifting, so I would imagine you could catch them with a slip cork fishing around 5 or 6 feet deep. I hear the catch some on the west end of the lake that way too.. But you better rely on locals/regulars, you may get better info.
You can't fish with a hung line!

I haven't fished the Saline lake side for crappie much. The landing is only a couple miles from the house, but I'm usually at our camp about midways between saline and larto, so I always stay on larto end. This fall I'm planning on spending more time on the saline end. Fishing saline and the surrounding bayous w/ shiner and jig under a cork and see what happens.

I was at Larto yesterday at the camp eating fish but not fishing. I havent been fishing on Larto in a while I have been busy getting deer huting stuff together. I got pics of a huge 12 point today so I am pumped. As for fishing Larto there were plenty of people spider rigging out from the island and some of the guys I fish with have been catching some nice ones. If we can get some rain and get the water back up to pool stage and a little above you can catch white perch in the fall around the trees on the back side of the island . I know people who catch them there year round. Catfish are biting good right now as usual also.
